Liam Hughes-Butler is a jazz guitarist from Denver, Colorado who began performing professionally at the age of 15. He has performed with the likes of Julian Lage, Sean Jones, Warren Wolf, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, and many more. His music continues the jazz tradition, continually advancing the state of the music. A player who is steeped in both jazz and classical traditions, Liam seeks to push the boundaries of contemporary music while keeping roots in the lineage. A member of the 2017 Jazz Band of America, 2015-16 Colorado All-State Jazz Band, and winner of more than 25 soloist awards, Liam was also a member of the prestigious Jazz Workshop Orchestra. JWO has won “Best High School Jazz Band” from Downbeat Magazine 2016 and 2017 and was invited to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington Competition in 2017 where they won 2nd place. Among these achievements, Liam has also been fortunate enough to work with artists from Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jonathan Kreisberg, Melissa Aldana, Terell Stafford, Ron Miles (Denver’s own), and Shane Endsley of Kneebody, among many. He is currently studying under contemporary greats, Warren Wolf and Edward Simon at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Liam is performing regularly in San Francisco and across the United States.
